Superhero Interior Design: Marvel Comic Books

As a follow up to our blog post on Super Hero Interior Design, we would like to further explore how superhero themes can be used in interior design. As we concluded before, no one is too old for superheroes! The great thing about interior design is that you can include your wildest interests into your home with some design know-how.

Marvel Comic Books is the publisher behind big superheroes like Captain America, The Avengers, Spiderman and The X-Men. Marvel was acquired by Disney in 2009. The recent movies portraying the cinematic universe of the Marvel comic books have been very successful and have brought well-loved characters, like Iron Man and Thor, back into mainstream popularity.

How do interior designers go about incorporating Marvel comics into modern interior design? We were intrigued by the work of interior designer Rembrand-Alexis Flores. Some of his designs definitely look like the home a superhero would live in; they’re elegant and futuristic.

This office space above evokes the bright colo    rs often found in comic books. This is not your average office. Even the light fixture is colored orange and the back wall is a neon green. Pair these with the red chairs and the checkered flooring and you have an office decorated with flair. Of course, the space is not complete without the wall decals of comic book covers from Marvel.

Here, Flores designs another office space with comic book flair. The colors blue, white and red pop out against the dark stone walls and hardwood floor. These are definitely Captain America’s signature colors. The futuristic fireplace is also a nice touch that communicates elegance and style.

In the above photo, an interior design for an office space or healthcare waiting room uses comic book colors. The designer used bright colored furniture paired with light brown tables and a neutral floor color to remind the viewer of comic books and pop art. The wall decal on the left side literally screams comic books with the use of a sound effect bubble and Ben-Day dots.

Again, we have another office space. This could be a home office or a corporate office. Yet again, bright colors are used in the furniture and accessories. These are placed against a dark background. In this photo, the wall is a neutral gray and a huge poster of comic book panels is used to decorate the back wall. The panels include members of the X-Men and the Avengers.

Lastly, we have an example of a wall decal that can be placed in almost any room to add that comic book flair. This wall decal features a panel from Thor. The wall decal expresses the comic book interest, without overwhelming the viewer. Note the dark brown furniture used throughout the room.

Perhaps next we will see some interior design inspired by Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. If we find it, we’ll let you know.
